The state has a variety of attractions to offer its visitors, such as the splendid Abbey falls in Coorg, the 57-foot high monolithic structure of Lord Gomteshwar in Shravanabelagola, the magnificent Mysore Palace, the Bandipur National Park, the beaches near Wayanad and many more. Kozhikode, also known as Calicut, is a city in the northern part of Kerala. The place gets its name from calico, an all-cotton fabric woven in plain or tabby style, which was traded between India and Europe in the 17 th and 18 th centuries. In 1498, Vasco da Gama reached Calicut by discovering a sea route to India and built a fortified trading post there. The vibrant city is also famous for pepper, ginger, coffee, tea, and other crops. The Malabar cuisine, the historical monuments, and the picturesque beaches all make it a must-visit destination for travellers looking to explore South India.

Arrive at Calicut airport / Railway station, The Travel Planners representative will meet and thereafter drive to Wayanad. An amazing journey through the Ghat pass road and you could stop at Lakkidi view point and enjoy the beautiful view of the serpentine roads through the hills. Famous for its nine hairpin bends, the Lakkidi View Point offers a splendid view of the mountains of Wayanad. From a high-altitude point, one can also take a breathtaking view of the city. With its unforgettable charm, it is quite popular as a picnic spot among the tourists. The Lakkidi View Point is also known as the Gateway of Wayanad.

Next, on the way you can stop few minutes at the Chain Tree which is along the side of the national high way. It is a large ficus tree bound by a chain. Stories have it that the tree is haunted by a local tribal, who helped a Britisher discover the route through the ghat and was later killed by him.

On arrival check in at your hotel. Afternoon visit Pookode Lake (Boating – Optional) and Soochipara Waterfalls. The Pookode Lake is nestled between the verdant forests and the Western Ghats. It is a freshwater lake that is spread over thirteen acres and is forty metres deep. The Soochipara Falls is a three-tiered waterfall located amidst the deciduous and evergreen forests of Wayanad. It is also known by the name of Sentinel Rock Waterfalls.

Early morning or after breakfast you can go to the Muthanga Wild life sanctuary (First entry 6:30 AM is the ideal time to see the wild life), later visit the Jain temple, Edakkal Caves, Wayanad heritage museum and Phantom Rocks.

The Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary in Wayanad was established in 1973. It attracts many tourists throughout the year. With its deciduous and semi-evergreen forests, the Muthanga Wildlife Sanctuary is an integral part of the Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve. Tourists taking a ride along the Muthanga road may see tigers and elephants roaming freely. Moreover, the sanctuary has also been declared a Project Elephant site.

The Edakkal Caves are 10 kms away from Sulthan Bathery. Lying at 1200 metres above sea level, the caves are believed to have formed from the arrows fired by Lava and Kusha, the sons of Lord Rama. According to other legends, the formation of the caves is also associated with Kutti Chathan and the Goddess Mudiampilly. Tourists can reach the caves by trekking up the Ambukuthi hills.

The Wayanad Heritage Museum is one of the best archaeological museums in Kerala, which stores the relics and artefacts from Wayanad’s history. Some of these have been preserved from the 2nd century C.E. as well.

Finally, you can visit the Phantom Rock, an archaeological wonder that is famous for its skull shaped rock formed from metamorphic rocks. Locally, it is called as “Cheengeri Mala” or “Thalappara”.

Morning after breakfast drive to Coorg. On the way you can visit Kuruvadweep - a series of islands formed on the Kabini river (09.30 AM to 03.30 PM... No Entry on Monsoon season & some particular Days, when animals riding in the place) OR you can visit Nagarholle Wild life sanctuary.

The Kuruvadweep also goes by the name of Kuruva Island and is formed of a cluster of islets over the Kabini River. The island is spread over 950 acres and contains two small freshwater lakes as well. Here, tourists can find many migratory birds, hornbills, parrots, and a variety of butterfly species. Travellers looking for uncontaminated natural surroundings flock here to explore the serenity and take a break from the fast-paced and chaotic world.

The Nagarhole National Park gets its name from the words “Naga” meaning snake, and “hole” meaning streams. The national park consists of many wriggling streams, and hence, got its name. Approximately, it has 47 streams, 41 artificial tanks, 4 lakes as well as a reservoir and a dam. Nagarhole National Park is now under consideration to be recognized as a heritage site. It has a huge population of several species of birds and animals, including elephants, bears, tigers, and guars.

On arrival check in your hotel at Madikery. Evening visit the Raja’s Seat. The Raja seat is a popular tourist spot, which literally translates into “Seat of the Kings”. Situated in the town of Madikeri, it is the perfect spot for tourists looking for a refreshing setting and a calm environment. One can spend some time here or just idly witness the beautiful view of the sunrise and sunset.

Tibetan Golden Temple

Morning after breakfast visit Madikery Palace (Madikery Fort), Abbi Falls and then drive to Kushalnagar- largest Tibetan settlement in South India. Visit the Tibetan Golden Temple.

The Abbi Falls is one of the major tourist attractions in Madikeri. The water falling from a height of 70 feet from the cliff offers a resplendent view to behold. The Abbi Falls is located amidst private coffee plantations and spice estates, making it a great place for nature lovers and photographers.

Located at around six kms from Kushalnagar is the Tibetan Monastery called Namdroling. Welcoming to visitors from all over the world, the calm and spiritual ambience of the place is an ideal escape from the noisy city life. The major attraction of this place is the forty feet tall golden Buddha statue. Moreover, the walls of the temples and institutions consisting of the paintings of the characters from Buddhist mythology draw the attention of a large number of tourists.

Later visit Cauvery Nisargadhama,is an island formed by river Cauvery and is a picnic spot island OR visit Dubare Elephant camp (located on the banks of River Cauvery). The 64- acre land can be reached by crossing over a hanging bridge. The Nisargadhama Islands, Coorg is the favourite picnic spot for many tourists due to its thick bamboo groves, teak and sandalwood trees, and beautiful river-side cottages. Visitors can also experience elephant rides and boating. Besides, there is a deer park, a children’s park, and an orchidarium.

Bekal Fort

Morning after breakfast drive to the Bekal Fort and beach (120 Km), a small town situated in the eastern shore of Kerala. The golden expanse of the beautiful beach surrounded by the Giant keyhole shaped Fort is the main attraction here. Bekal Fort, one of the largest forts in Kerala, is quite well-maintained throughout the years. Located at 130 feet above sea level on the steep hills, the fort offers a splendid view from the beach. The beauty of the Bekal Fort beach attracts tourists in great numbers. Bekal Fort is built using laterite slabs and is among the most visited tourist destinations in Kerala. The fort looks even more beautiful in the night after being lit up with special lights. You can also plan your stay at the nearby Bekal Fort resorts to spend some more time at the Bekal beach.
